The Waltoa service is operated by People Make Things, Inc. (“People Make Things,” “Waltoa,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”). Waltoa is a service and website name; the legal entity behind it is People Make Things, Inc. In this Privacy Policy, “Waltoa,” “we,” and “us” all refer to People Make Things, Inc. People Make Things values the privacy of individuals who use our website, tools, and related services (collectively, our “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information from users of our Services (“Users,” “you”). By using our Services, you agree to the collection, use, disclosure, and procedures this Privacy Policy describes. Beyond this Privacy Policy, your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms of Service.
We may collect a variety of information from or about you or your devices from various sources, as described below.
Registration and submission information. When you engage with us to license your podcast audio, we ask for information such as your name, email address, and the name of your podcast. You may also optionally provide information such as your recording setup and tools, the number and length of your episodes, links to your show, and other details relevant to the licensing. We use this information to communicate with you, evaluate fit, prepare your agreement, and process your payment.
Recordings. You provide us with the raw, separate-speaker audio files (“Recordings”) of your podcast episodes, together with any related metadata (for example, episode titles, dates, and file information). Recordings contain the recorded voices of you and any guests. Recorded voices are personal data, and in some jurisdictions may be treated as biometric or special-category data. We handle Recordings as described in this Privacy Policy and in the agreement you sign with us.
Consent and agreement records. When you accept our licensing agreement or other terms electronically, we record information evidencing your acceptance, such as your name, email address, the date and time of acceptance, your IP address, and the version of the document you accepted. We keep these records as evidence of your electronic signature and of the scope of the rights you granted.
Communications. If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you, such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of your message and any attachments, and any other information you choose to provide. When we send you emails, we may use standard technologies to track information about your receipt of and interaction with those emails, such as whether and when you open them and whether you access links included in them, to learn how to deliver a better experience and improve our Services.
Payment information. If we pay you, we or our third-party payment provider may collect information needed to make the payment, such as your name, payment details, and, where required by law, tax information (for example, a Form W-9 or equivalent). Our payment provider's own privacy policy applies to its processing of your information.
Device information. We receive information about the device and software you use to access our Services, including IP address, device type, device identifiers, web browser type and version, and operating system version.
Usage information. We automatically receive information about your interactions with our Services, such as the pages or other content you view, referrer information (the website you visited before coming to our Services), the dates and times of your visits, and your clicks and views.
Cookies and similar technologies. We and our service providers may use cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies to operate, secure, and analyze the Services. Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We may use both session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your device until deleted). You can usually instruct your browser, by changing its settings, to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie; the Services may not function properly if you disable all cookies.
Depending on how you interact with us, the information described above may include the following categories: identifiers (such as name and email address); audio and electronic information (such as Recordings and voice data); commercial information (such as the licensing transactions you complete with us); internet or other network activity (such as usage information); professional information (such as details about your podcast); and inferences drawn from the above (such as quality and fit assessments for your Recordings).
We use the information we collect to:
Service providers and vendors. We may disclose information we receive to vendors and service providers retained in connection with the provision of our Services, for example cloud hosting and storage providers, file-transfer providers, e-signature providers, scheduling tools, communications tools, analytics providers, and payment providers, strictly for them to perform services on our behalf.
Affiliates. We may disclose any information we receive to our current or future affiliates for any of the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
As required by law and similar disclosures. We may access, preserve, and disclose your information if we believe doing so is required or appropriate to: (a) comply with law-enforcement requests and legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; (b) respond to your requests; or (c) protect your, our, or others' rights, property, or safety.
Merger, sale, or other asset transfers. We may transfer your information to service providers, advisors, potential transactional partners, or other third parties in connection with the consideration, negotiation, or completion of a corporate transaction in which we are acquired by or merged with another company, or in which we sell, liquidate, or transfer all or a portion of our assets. The use of your information following any of these events will be governed by the provisions of this Privacy Policy in effect at the time the applicable information was collected.
Consent. We may also disclose your information with your permission.
What we do not do. We do not sell your Recordings, and we do not share your Recordings with third parties for their own independent use. We use the Recordings you license to us for our own research and model development, as described in our Terms of Service and your agreement with us. We also do not “sell” or “share” your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
We retain personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. In particular: we retain Recordings for the duration of the license you grant us (which is perpetual under our standard agreement); we retain consent and agreement records for as long as needed to evidence the rights granted; and we retain communications and transaction records as needed for business, legal, and tax purposes. Where information is no longer needed, we will delete it, de-identify it, or securely archive it.
Access, correction, deletion, portability. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at great@peoplemakethings.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. Please note that personal data already used to train a model cannot always be removed from that model; we will explain what is and is not possible when you contact us. Please also note that deletion requests cannot override a valid license you have granted to us where we have an ongoing lawful basis to retain the licensed Recordings; we will explain the specifics when you contact us.
EU/UK users (GDPR). If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, our legal bases for processing your personal data are: your consent (which you may withdraw at any time, without affecting processing already carried out); the performance of our agreement with you; compliance with our legal obligations; and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving our Services. Because Recordings may contain voice data treated as special-category (biometric) data in some circumstances, we rely on your explicit consent and on your confirmation that you hold the necessary consents from all speakers, including guests. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
California users (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to: know what categories of personal information we collect, use, and disclose; access the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you; correct inaccurate personal information; request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions; and not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as defined by California law, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than those permitted by law. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we may require proof of the agent's authorization and verification of your identity. To exercise your rights, contact great@peoplemakethings.com.
Other U.S. state privacy laws. Residents of other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws (for example, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah) may have similar rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability, and the right to appeal a refusal. To exercise these rights, contact great@peoplemakethings.com.
Marketing communications. You can unsubscribe from our promotional emails via the link provided in the emails. Even if you opt out of receiving promotional messages from us, you will continue to receive administrative and transactional messages.
Do Not Track. There is no accepted standard on how to respond to Do Not Track signals, and we do not respond to such signals.
Because Recordings contain the voices of you and your guests, you confirm (under our Terms of Service and your agreement with us) that you own or control the Recordings and hold the necessary rights and consents from all speakers, including guests, to license them to us. We rely on that confirmation. If you or a guest wishes to raise a concern or withdraw consent, contact us at great@peoplemakethings.com; we will address the request as required by applicable law, and we will explain what is possible with respect to data already incorporated into research or model training.
We make reasonable efforts to protect your information by using physical, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to improve the security of the information we maintain, such as encryption of data in transit and access controls limiting who can access Recordings and personal information. We take the protection of voice data seriously. However, because no electronic transmission or storage of information can be entirely secure, we can make no guarantees as to the security or privacy of your information. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where required by law.
We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 18 years of age, and no part of our Services is directed to children. If you learn that a child has provided us with personal information in violation of this Privacy Policy, you may alert us at great@peoplemakethings.com, and we will take steps to delete the information.
Our Services are hosted in the United States. If you choose to use the Services from the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, please note that you are transferring your personal information outside of those regions to the United States for storage and processing. Where required, we take steps designed to ensure that such transfers comply with applicable law. We may also transfer your data from the U.S. to other countries or regions in connection with storage and processing of data, fulfilling your requests, and operating the Services. By providing any information, including personal information, on or to the Services, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing, subject to the rights described in this Privacy Policy.
Our Services may contain links to, or integrations with, other websites, products, or services that we do not own or operate, for example cloud storage, file-transfer, e-signature, scheduling, or payment tools. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. This Privacy Policy does not apply to your activities on those third-party services or to any information you disclose to those third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information to them.
We may create de-identified, anonymized, or aggregated data from the information we collect (for example, aggregate statistics about the volume and characteristics of audio we process). Such data does not identify you, and we may use and disclose it for any lawful purpose. Where we maintain de-identified data, we commit to maintaining it in de-identified form and not attempting to re-identify it, except as permitted by law to test the effectiveness of our de-identification processes.
You can request that we update or correct your information, or ask us to close out your engagement with us, by contacting great@peoplemakethings.com. Note that closing out your engagement does not by itself terminate licenses you have validly granted; the terms of your agreement with us govern what survives.
We will post any adjustments to this Privacy Policy on this page, and the revised version will be effective when it is posted. If we materially change the ways in which we use or disclose personal information previously collected from you through the Services, we will notify you through the Services, by email, or by other communication.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about our processing activities, please email us at great@peoplemakethings.com, or write to: People Make Things, Inc., 2261 Market Street STE 35679, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States.
